Chuck WhitingIn the autumn of 1988, Nashville songwriters Robert Roberg and Chuck Whiting sat down at the guitar and acoustic piano to craft a song called The Littlest Star. They performed it extensively across Middle Tennessee, receiving applause from little stars of all ages. Though several major music publishers expressed interest, the song remained in God's pocket for a dozen years, finally shining to life on radio with a hit single by Margo Smith. This book and the accompanying CD, audio cassette and T-shirt are evidence that, with a lot of hard work, faith, love and determination, anything is possible.
A native of Spokane, Washington, Roberg's artwork has been featured in the Smithsonian Institution's national tour of folk art and displayed and sold at other fine art exhibitions across the Southeast. One of his paintings is currently on display at the National Museum of Biblical Art in New York City. The painting recently appeared on the front page of The New York Times. His paintings have appeared in hardback books published by Abbeville Press, Abingdon Press, and the United Methodist Publishing House. Roberg has performed original songs in venues from coast-to-coast.
Whiting moved to Nashville in 1985 to pursue a career in journalism and music. He handled publicity for the Opryland Hotel before founding his own PR firm on Nashville's Music Row in 1993. Over the years, he has represented clients such as the Songwriters Guild of America, Grand Ole Opry stars The Melvin Sloan Dancers, noted author Candy Paull, TV/radio personalities The Saucy Sisters, Hanging Around Art Gallery, and the historic Union Station Hotel. He teaches communication courses for Middle Tennessee State University and Volunteer State Community College. A native of Mobile, Ala., Whiting earned a music degree from the University of Alabama in Birmingham (UAB) and bachelor's and master's degrees in journalism from the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa. He has won numerous awards for news and feature writing, as well as songwriting.
